Think, Eat, Save – Spread the Green Message


World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5th June every year. This celebration began in 1972 during the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. Since, then it has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action. An event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. The activities take place all year round and major campaigns being organized on June 5 every year, involving every country across the globe. 


Every year, WED is celebrated based upon different themes. Given this enormous imbalance in lifestyles and the resultant devastating effects on the environment, this year’s theme is Think. Eat. Save, it encourages increasing the awareness of the environmental impact of the food choices being made and empowers to make informed decisions.  While the planet is struggling to provide with enough resources to sustain its 7 billion population (projected to grow to 9 billion by 2050), it is being estimated that 1/3 of global food production is either wasted or lost. In India, food waste and losses occur also at the early stages of the food value chain and can be traced back to financial, managerial and technical constraints in harvesting techniques as well as storage & cooling facilities.


While, the impact of food waste is also not just financial. Environmentally, food waste leads to wasteful use of chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides, more fuel used for transportation and more rotting food, creating more methane, one of the most harmful Green House Gas that contributes to Climate Change.


At an individual level, to minimize the Environmental Impact of our actions, let’s pledge to take action regarding:

·       Reduction of Food Waste

·       Conserving Water

·       Stop using plastic bags to carry food

·       Switching to Organic food & say No to Adulteration in food processing,.


All are requested to be environmentally conscious while having food anywhere outside.


So Think before we Eat and help Save the Environment and be a Conserver at Work..!!!!!
